In my free time I have been researching the many, many problems and solutions to the future of energy sustainability. This includes everything from renewable energy technology, electrical grid infrastructure, passive house technology, regulatory issues, and so on.

Below is a diagram I have begun to make as a way of organizing my research. This is very much a work in progress but gives a high-level overview of the problem-solution space (keep in mind this completely ignores social and governance issues like overconsumption and the link between energy use and GDP):

Flowchart illustrating electrical grid problems and solutions. Central topic is 'Electrical Grid Problem-Solution Space'. Problems in blue boxes include 'Increasing demand', 'Energy use/need variability', 'Cybersecurity threats', and 'Regulation and funding'. Solutions in green boxes include 'Microgrids', 'Renewable integration', 'Segmentation of the network', and 'Incentive structures for tech upgrades'. Various connections are shown between problems and their corresponding solutions.
